Tea Dance 11 February 2024

It was good to see so many of you at this event and the free half hours tuition which preceded it. This has become a firm monthly fixture on our calender and I look forward to seeing you again in March

Emily Baker, Tony Sandford and Dotty Griffiths all took Bronze Medals in December with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and I'm proud to congratulate them on all passing with honours. Emily did double Bronze (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep and Slow Rhythm) and Tony and Dotty did Waltz, Tango and Slow Rhythm

You may already have heard that I have been diagnosed with a medical condition (which is thankfully not serious) and as a result of this I am temporarily unable to drive. I was hoping to be able to drive again fairly quickly but unfortunately this is not likely to happen in the very near future and this has forced me to rethink my programme for the New Year.

With this in mind I am having to ensure that anything I do I can get to and from, including the transportation of equipment. I have therefore given this a lot of thought and this has included

1/ How I can meet the needs of as many people as possible

2/ How I can offer as diverse a programme as possible

3/ How I can ensure sufficient attendance to make each session financially viable

4/ How I can accommodate new and existing members

5/ The relative popularity of workshops over a weekly class commitment

I have therefore decided to offer:

1/ more personal/ small group private lessons (including a new offering on a Tuesday evening at Winford). These will work as now i.e. one couple or group book time slots for lessons. I will continue to charge £26 per hour for up to 2 couples and £6 per person for groups of 3 couples or more. Lessons at Fishponds on a Thursday cost slightly more i.e. £30 per hour for up to 2 couples and £6 per person for groups of 3 couples or more.

2/ More workshops on different days and at different venues. I will ask you to reserve a place by a closing date to ensure I have sufficient numbers to run and I will confirm on the closing date that this is the case

3/ I will continue the drop in class on a Thursday morning in Fishponds 1030-1130 at £6 per person.

4/ I will introduce technique sessions for those taking medals and those who wish to improve their dancing i.e. you can attend even if not taking medals.

Unfortunately I have therefore had to let go of the Whitchurch Hall on a Tuesday and I am looking to replace this with a series of workshops in due course and I am currently working on dates and venues. This has been a very hard decision due to the time I've been running classes at this venue on a Tuesday and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support over the years.

I hope those of you that currently attend on a Tuesday will now get together in small groups and book lessons as above. This will mean that we can really concentrate on what your small group want to do and consequently move you along much more quickly. If you want to do this but want help forming a small group please let me know. You will also be able to attend any workshops that will suit you.

I also believe we need to use what we learn and I will therefore continue to run social dances on a regular basis.

I hope that the above will prove attractive to you and that those of you that attend on a Tuesday will find plenty to occupy you in the programme I'm developing.

Sunday 26 November Tea Dance Winford

It was good to see so many of you at this event and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I think it is really important to put class and lesson work into practice and it was good to see you doing this on Sunday. The next tea dance will now be in January

Tuesday 31 October Halloween Dance in Whitchurch

Thank you to all of you that were able to join me for this Charity Dance. I am pleased to say that from your donations I will be sending a cheque for £232 to St Peters Hospice and thank you all for your very generous donations.

To those of you that dressed in costume, or added to the decorations with such things as pumpkins, again a very big thank you for making this dance different to the normal format. I hope everyone in attendance enjoyed the evening as much as I did and I show below a photo I received showing Malcolm, Paula, Mike and Carole in costume. Any other photo's I can publish would be greatly appreciated.

Tuesday 3 October

Beginners Session 7 p.m. It was great to start 2 new dances Cha Cha and Rhythm Foxtrot. If you missed this and wish to join on the 10th October please come along as I will re-teach and add a new step

Rock N Roll Workshop 8 pm It was good to see so many of you for this workshop and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. If you like workshops please join us again on 17 October 8-9.30 p.m. for a short new Cha Cha Group work shop.

Tuesday 26 September

It was good to see so many of you at the Social Dance and thank you for making it such an enjoyable evening. It was also good to see so many of our new members as I think using your class work in a social environment is really beneficial. I now look forward to the next dance.

I am very grateful to the International Dance Teachers Accociation for granting me a Life Membership. As some of our members may know I have qualifications with both the IDTA and ISTD and believe both to be fantastic dance organisations. They both provide amateur and professional qualifications and also continued learning.

It was great to see new and established members after our August break. Thank you for coming and making the evening so enjoyable.

Friday 11 August - Rock N Roll Keynsham

12 of us attended the Rock N Roll in Keynsham, dancing to a live band, the Kingcats. What a great evening and will look to repeat in a couple of months

Emily took her first exam on 9 July, Social Dance Test One, and passed with honours. Congratulations Emily on achieving this well deserved result.

Last Night Sunday 6 August

It was great to see so many at the Grand Atlantic Hotel last night and thank you for your support. It was a really great evening and I'm always very grateful for the friendliness and kind comments. I am hosting again on 20 August and hope you can join me.
